Great Dunmow Town Band - previously Dunmow Wind Band - celebrated its 10th anniversary with a charity concert.

The concert was held at Foakes Hall on Saturday, March 25, and was conducted by Jon Rockey - a close friend of the band's late founder Andy King - and Andrea Birkett, who is currently bandmaster at Colchester Barracks.

The programme contained a mix of jazz, swing, film music, pop and musical greats, with the band joined by Big Voices Community Choir singing some well-known favourites.

Pianists Jonas Balerdi and Ankhan Aswani, both winners of the junior and intermediate sections of Rotary Young Musicians Competition, also performed, and Robin Carsberg compered.

Emma Dearing, one of the very first members of the band, gave a moving tribute to Andy King, who founded and led the band and choir, and his wife Della, both of whom died last year.

The Rotary Club supported the concert by providing a bar and a raffle, and the event was sponsored by Pro Tuition and Don's of Dunmow.

The concert raised more than £2,000, which will go towards the British Heart Foundation, St Clare's Hospice and the Rotary youth programmes. 

A spokesperson for the band said: "It’s wonderful to see live music performed and appreciated by young and old in our town, as well as raising money for good causes."

Great Dunmow Town Band continues to grow and thrive under its new conductor, Callum Abram, and is always happy to welcome new members.
