Great Dunmow retirees donned their best buttoned outfits and Union Jack flags for a Pearly King and Queen event.
The Pearly tradition, which has become a symbol of London's working class, was started by a Victorian street sweeper who decided to add pearly buttons to his clothes in the 1870s.

Guests gathered at McCarthy Stone's Stane House retirement living development on Friday, October 27 to catch sight of the Pearly King and Queen and enjoy a Cockney-inspired spread of pie and mash.
Sam Watkins, divisional sales director at McCarthy Stone, said: "Our Pearly King and Queen Event was a fantastic opportunity to bring local retirees together and for them to experience the diverse and welcoming community that sits at the heart of Stane House."
