Thaxted Parish Church will have a range of pottery on display at its annual Christmas Fayre this weekend.

The event takes place on Saturday, November 25 from 10am until 1pm.

Once again the fayre will host Moorcroft Pottery, with many items on sale at reduced prices.

Based in Staffordshire, Moorcroft Pottery is chaired by Thaxted resident Hugh Edwards, and was founded by potter William Moorcroft in 1913.

William Moorcroft's fine art pottery was launched into the world in 1897, when he was employed by James Macintyre & Co.

A graduate of what is now the Royal College of Art in London, William went on to sell his work to prestigious stores such as Liberty of London, Harrods and Tiffany & Co in New York.

Now, more than 100 years later, Moorcroft still regularly supplies Liberty of London, has had designs taken into the Royal Collection by the late Queen Elizabeth II, and sells pottery worldwide.

Sales of Moorcroft pottery have attracted national and international customers to Thaxted and Walden, and Moorcraft money has previously supported Thaxted Parish Church.

In addition to Moorcroft pottery, the church will host lots of other stalls including crafts, cake, children's toys, raffles and homemade refreshments.

Children will be able to visit Father Christmas, who will make a special guest appearance in his bell tower grotto.

Paul Meader, from the church, said: "We are looking forward to our traditional Christmas Fayre which, for many, marks the start of the run up to the festive season."

Thaxted Church is currently undergoing a period of renovation, and all money raised will go towards this project.

The parish church - the Church of St John the Baptist with Our Lady & St Laurence - is at the heart of Thaxted and was described by poet and writer Sir John Betjemen as one of the greatest churches in England.

Upholding a tradition of Anglo-Catholicism, the church is also used by various music and drama organisations for the benefit of the community and every year attracts thousands of visitors from around the world.

The current vicar is Father Gerwyn Capon.
