St Mary's Church in Great Dunmow has been lit up with hundreds of stars made by people in the town.
The stars, many of which contain prayers, point visitors towards a giant LED star installed above the traditional nativity scene.
Reverend Tom said: "Everyone, including school children, people enjoy one of the town's cafés and residents of care homes were invited to make and decorate a star.

"A huge amount of people have helped create this year's beautiful display."
Carols by Neon Lights, a modern carol service featuring traditional carols with "a bit more rock and roll" will be held at 5pm on Sunday, December 10.
Dunmow's official Nine Lessons and Carols service will be held at the church at 7.30pm on Thursday, December 21.
