The headteacher of Felsted School and the parent of two pupils are taking on a running challenge to raise money for charity.

Head Chris Townsend and parent Simone Gubbins will attempt the Goggins 4x4x48 challenge on Friday, September 13.

The challenge was pioneered by Navy SEAL David Goggins, and will see the pair run four miles in an hour every four hours across 48 hours to fundraise for Young Minds - one of Felsted's core charities.

Simone has two daughters at Felsted, and is an avid sportswoman, member of Mind and psychologist-in-training.

She said: "Every year I like to challenge myself with a new fitness goal, race or event.

"After reading both of David Goggins' books last summer, I was truly inspired and since then this challenge has been on my mind.

"However, I could not find anyone in the village who would take part in the challenge with me, until a few parents and teachers suggested that Chris would be the ideal candidate.

"And lucky for me he jumped at the opportunity with gusto!"

Simone said she is a mix of "excited, slightly scared and running on adrenaline" ahead of the challenge, and that she thinks it is the rest and recovery after the run which she will find most challenging.

She explained that the 4x4x48 challenge is a test of mental resilience, and hopes to raise awareness in children of the importance of both attaining and developing mental resilience.

Simone said: "Additionally, this challenge will postulate the notion that fitness and sports can be used to develop and maintain mental resilience too.

"As well as raising awareness for mental resilience in children, we specifically wish to raise funds for Young Minds, a mental health charity for children, young people and their parents.

"I really hope we are joined by as many people as possible on our four mile runs across the 48 hours!

"Children, dogs, fellow park runners and anyone who wants to get involved are certainly welcome!"
