Horse and pony riders took to the streets in Finchingfield, Cornish Hall End and Great Bardfield on Sunday to raise awareness of laws about overtaking horses.

Current law is to slow down to 10mph and give two metres space when overtaking horses.

Since the closure of the riding tracks at the Spains Hall Estate there are more horses and ponies on roads in the area, and an increase in near misses with vehicles.

Organiser Jules Millar said: "Many drivers are not even aware of the laws that dictate how you are supposed to overtake a horse. 

"Horses are animals and can frightened by anything from sudden engine noises to a bird in the hedge. There is going to be an accident of something doesn’t change."
