Children around the district have been celebrating World Book Day. These pictures are of some of the fun from across Uttlesford.
Katherine Semar Schools
Storyteller Janina Vigurs visited Katherine Semar Schools, Saffron Walden, for World Book Day, had an interactive story-telling session with each class and helped to open the new school library.
Parents and businesses raised over £3,000 towards new books for the library through the 'Buy a book' appeal.
Librarians Jake and Julia gave Janina a tour of the library showing her the outside reading area, explaining how the books are catalogued and how children can find other books to enjoy.
The children showed off the area where they can play chess or relax with a good book. Curriculum Ambassadors told Janina about their favourite books in the library.
Bright Horizons Nursery
Emilia Eastwood, age three, dressed as Red Riding Hood as her favourite book is Red Riding Hood and the Sweet Little Wolf by Rachel Mortimer.

Thaxted Primary School
World Book Day celebrations at Thaxted Primary School were in full swing.
Patron of Reading, author Rosemary Hayes, came to visit the older children.
She shared her experiences about life as an author and told the children all about her new book called Break Out.
This follows the adventures of a girl called Flora who, following a global plague, finds herself in a world where her parents have disappeared and no phones or computers are allowed.
The children loved hearing about her inspiration for the book and then enjoyed a writing workshop, where they got to imagine their own ideas based on an extract from the story.
Acting Deputy Head, Emma Dymond said she is sure the visit has inspired a future generation of writers!

Dunmow St Mary's Primary School
Dunmow St Mary's went hat crazy for World Book Day. Hats represented their favourite book character or a book itself.
As the 2022 World Book Day theme was ‘reading for pleasure’, during English sessions the students were asked to think about ways to celebrate the fact that they are readers and to produce artwork and writing about this. These will be shared with parents and families soon.
Classes also read books that represent the realities of children’s lives today.
A school representative said: "It’s such a lovely opportunity to celebrate reading for the whole year rather than just a day of activities!"
