The Thaxted Dragons karate squad returned victorious from the Malta Karate Open with three gold medals, one silver and one bronze.
Under the leadership of Sensei Barry Healy and supported by coach Alice Young, the 12-strong squad, who range from age six to 18, trained three nights a week in the village hall to prepare for the competition.
There were over 700 competitors at the event, with participants from 28 countries.

Barry said "I am so proud of all the Thaxted Dragons who took part at the Malta Karate Open international event. It takes skill but also great courage to stand up and compete at this level."
A senior squad from the Thaxted Dragons will attend the world championships in Poland later this year.
