People living in Uttlesford can recycle their Christmas trees next month with St Clare Hospice.

The hospice's Christmas tree recycling scheme continues to grow, this year branching out into more postcode areas.

St Clare will collect and responsibly dispose of real spruce, pine and fir trees once Christmas festivities come to an end, in exchange for a suggested £15 donation.

Booking is now open, and collections will take place between January 11 and 13 in the following postcode areas: CB10 and CB11, CM5 and CM6, CM16, CM17, CM18, CM19, CM20, CM21, CM22, CM23 and CM24, EN9 and IG7, IG9 and IG10.

Registration closes at 11.59pm on Sunday, January 7.

Last year the hospice collected more than 1,450 trees from homes across West Essex and the border of East Herts, raising over £20,000 to help fund hospice services.

"Our popular Christmas tree recycling scheme makes its return this coming January, helping to make your Christmas clear-up as easy as possible so you can focus on all the festive fun that the season has to offer."

St Clare works in partnership with JustHelping and local waste management organisations to collect the trees from people's doorsteps and recycle them in an environmentally-friendly way.

Once the trees are chopped up the chippings have a variety of different uses - including animal bedding, being turned into compost or used to make footpaths.

Ellie said: "This is the sixth year we have organised our tree-recycling service and we expect to be even busier than ever, so we are encouraging people to book their collection slot online as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

"Make sure to register your tree before Sunday, January 7 and you’ll be well on your way to enjoying the New Year without the chore of clearing out pine needles from your car boot."
