A Dunmow-based swimming school has been named 'Swim School of the Year' - recognising its "outstanding contribution" to the community.

Mini Swimming, which provides swimming lessons for children of all ages, was honoured by the Swimming Teachers' Association (STA) at the STA Aquatic Excellence Awards in Birmingham earlier this month.

Founded in 2012, Mini Swimming started with just 23 young swimmers, and now teaches nearly 3,000 children weekly across its six locations, including Dunmow.

Steve Ames, managing director of Mini Swimming, said: "We are absolutely overjoyed to receive the Swim School of the Year award.

"It’s a tremendous honour for everyone in the team and highlights their hard work and dedication.

"Our mission has always been to provide a fun, safe, and engaging environment for children to learn such an essential life skill, and it’s fantastic to see that vision recognised."

The leadership team at Mini Swimming includes Steve Ames, Louise Ames and Katie Fulton - who serves as the head of teaching.

Katie said: "Our focus has always been on delivering the best experience for our swimmers and their families.

"Winning this award is a great encouragement for us to keep pushing forward and improving our services."

In the future, Mini Swimming has plans to expand further into the Dunmow area and beyond, with a new location in the pipeline.

The team is also gearing up for a series of fundraising initiatives, including sponsored swims and community events in aid of local charities.

Mini Swimming employs more than 60 staff members, including instructors, lifeguards and support staff.

The pool in Dunmow is open seven days a week, from 8am to 7pm.
