The 80-year-old victim of a bank card theft in Dunmow is warning other shoppers to shield their PINs during transactions.
The pensioner had her card taken from her pocket at Tesco in Stortford Road at around 1.50pm on Tuesday, October 29.
Shortly afterwards £1,000 was taken out of her account in several instalments.
The victim had spent nearly £100 on groceries at the store, so she had to use her PIN rather than contactless.
As she is only five feet tall, she believes someone behind her was able to see her enter her PIN because of the high position of the card machines at the till.
Issuing a warning to others, she said: "For heaven's sake, look after your bank card because someone's watching you put in your PIN."
