Derby spoils in the Mid Essex Cricket League Premier Division went the way of High Roding as they Aythorpe Roding at home.
The visitors had come into the game in good form, with two wins in the last few weeks, but they fell to a four-wicket loss, confirming their relegation.
The match at The Meadow saw the visitors batting first and three early wickets did not help their cause.
Manith De Silva (31) did at least pull them up to 60-4 but it was Luke Wharton who was the main reason for their score getting to a more acceptable one.
He hit a brilliant 58 from 52 balls, including eight fours and two maximums as they finished on 163 in the 44th over.
The star for the home side was undoubtedly Fred Burns as he claimed 6-35 in eight overs, while there were two wickets for George Halls too.
High Roding reached the target early, after 27 overs, but they were made to work hard for their runs.
Opener Charlie Knightley scored 35 but home side started to lose quick wickets, finding themselves on 107-5.
The momentum shifted back to High Roding though with 44 not out from Henry Willis.
He gained good support from Will Davis (27) and Burns (10*) to claim the win.
Aythorpe Roding's bowlers were led by the ever-reliable Neil Culleton who picked up 3-26 while there was 2-36 for Arosh Arrow.
They complete their home league fixtures on Saturday against Great Waltham while High Roding, who are now fifth in the table, go to Great Baddow.
